on Reading, Writing and Blogging

“Writing is easy. You only need to stare at a piece of blank paper until a drop of blood forms on your forehead.”
I have a love/hate relationship with writing. It’s freeing, it’s purifying, it’s satisfying but boy, can it be a pain.
I have no such ambivalent feelings about reading. I’m the sort who can’t brush my teeth without a book in front of me; can’t tie my shoelaces. I blame reading for my never learning proper table manners — it’s impossible to use a knife and fork and hold a book in front of your face all at the same time (I know, I’ve tried). I’m not selective. I’ll read your shampoo bottle.
Nevertheless, many years ago (loooooooong before I knew my ass from my elbow) I decided to base my professional career on my writing so here I am.
Well, at first I decided to base my professional care on reading, English Literature to be exact. A connoisseur of good books. Once I “wisened up” and realised that almost nobody can make a career out of reading (oh how I wish) i decided to get “practical.”
Get a real profession.
Journalism.
Ha.
One day I’m going to write a book. Probably a children’s book. Enid Blyton, Dr. Seuss, A.A. Milne — these are my heroes. In a lot of ways, I don’t know that I ever got over my childhood. My perception of the world is so grounded in what I read, what I watched on television back then. Heck, my perception of the New York is based on The Babysitters’ Club hits Manhattan!
I believe everyone has at least one good book in them. It’s just that most never find theirs. Most never even bother to look most likely.
But it’s kind of like winning the lottery — you’re never going to win if you don’t buy a ticket.
I’ve wanted to be a writer ever since I can remember. But I’ve never really taken the steps to get there. Actually, I lie. I took the first step about a month ago when I started this blog.
And it’s been the most freeing, purifying, satisfying pain in the ass ever. EVERRRR.

“And it’s been the most freeing, purifying, satisfying pain in the ass ever. EVERRRR.” - This sounds like something straight from Anita Liberty

You made me wonder if I’m a better at writing than reading (no i’m not a writer by profession). I’m probably just as unfocused at both.

If you can eat until you’re 400lbs, don another 50lbs of kevlar armor, and you’re called an athlete - specifically part of the “defense” - then you can make it as a journalist. No offense America
Keep writing! If nothing else you’re adding numbers to what SHOULD be considered “real” professions.
Oh and it’s kind of not bad either.
