Big up to Elan–go take a listen
May 3rd, 2007
“I know you’re having a good time because it’s midnight on a Wednesday and you’re not whining about going to sleep.”
It was a Wednesday night. We were out. In Hollywood. To see some reggae bands.
We went to a reggae show on a Wednesday night in Hollywood.
You know what I usually do on a Wednesday night?
Watch America’s Next Top Model. (I wanted Brittany to win)
But on this fair Wednesday, the boyfriend and I gave it the old college try and made it all the way to Hollywood to see Elan, former lead singer for the Wailers, who put out a new album and is a friend of a friend.
Ahhhh… nothing like a seriously wicked show to put my stage aspirations into overdrive–this along with my famous writer, famous children’s book author, and famous fashion magazine editor a la Anna Wintour aspirations, of course.
So… here’s the story.
Elan is the real thing. Dude rocked it out, authentic as hell, had the boyfriend jumpin’ and wavin’. It was beautiful.
Elan is apparently huge in Hawaii. Which would account for all the Samoans at the gig. A Lot. Good people. Like to dance. Look like the Rock.
Fire dances are cool.
Good times were had by all. Good times.
Haven’t seen four other LA reggae artists as yet but Elan definitely makes my top five. (cell-phone ad/popculture reference)
Go take a listen.

Elan is the real deal. One of the best artists out there today. Definitely catch him play if he comes to your city. You will not regret it.
