Top 5 little things

This is James Mally, N.D. performing ear candling on a patient.

Life is full of so many minor amusements that tend to delight.
I love the little things.
Most of the time I don’t share what they are with others. Frankly, I don’t think many people are as comfortable with their quirks as I am. That’s not to say they don’t have them.
Here are couple things that I’ve been in remiss in posting about but have given me great joy in the past few weeks:
1. So after two years of intermittent discussion, we finally bought ear candles. Not that the actual ear candling experience was that great. And from all accounts and our own powers of observation it was much ado about nothing. I couldn’t really tell you that my aura felt any cleaner. But now, I’ve done it, I can say I’ve done it, and I have an extra pair handy if the need ever arises. I luuuurve being prepared for the unexpected.
2. After developing a blister within the 30 feet from my apartment to my car, I stumbled upon the office first-aid cabinet (OSHA-approved) in search of plasters. Ooooohhhh…. anti-bacterial wipes, band-aids in all shapes and sizes, all sorts of interesting creams, lip balm even! My blister never had it so good…
3. Baby Hailey-bear is finally at an age where I’m not going to be afraid to hold her and I get to see her next week. What a doll-baby. So this clearly isn’t a quirk. Who wouldn’t want to love up this little squishy.
4. Whoever invented libraries was brilliant. Books on tap! Fantastic! Currently I’m reading, “New England White,” by Stephen L. Carter, a literary novel/ murder mystery involving the African American elite at a fictional Ivy League New England university. One of the main characters is a West Indian transplant. If you know anything about me you know that this kind of book was made for me. If you like Zadie Smith you’ll probably like Carter’s work, although there are marked differences in style. Read it. I also recommend Carter’s previous novel, “Emperor of Ocean Park.”
5. My new coffee cup. I have a thing for travel mugs. The boyfriend’s sister and boyfriend were visiting last week (good times) and came bearing the gift of a new coffee cup. How did they know?! It’s one of those things that you have on your list to get but never do but know that your life will be infinitely better once you get it. It is. I love it. Thanks guys
It’s the little things, you know.
Life is good.

I must say…I was hugely amused when I saw the ear candling, then touched about the cup, I am glad it brightened your day even though it was officially from the boy, it really is the little things. That must be what I like most about life, the little things. It reminds me of something I learned during my horror of a job, a tool called the 5 love languages, or the high 5 tools, one of them is acts of service, this one truly resonated with me (of the five, not sure I can even remember them all). It refers to those things that you can do for people that will positively effect them that are unsolicited. I remember thinking this is what I was meant to do in life, hehehe, service people, it makes me laugh, but it is amazing how a small gesture of kindness, can change the course of things, big and small. The other 4 are things like gifts, time, physical affection, and I can not remember the last but you get the idea. I miss you.

One of your aunts commented on Hailey’s picture - that same one - this weekend. She said she looked a lot like a Glo-worm.
I giggled like a small girl.
