If you were a car…
September 20th, 2007
Once upon a time I used to be a yellow mini.
Yellow!!
But then… the real world happened. And somehow all of the yellow mini-ness got sucked out of me and I ended up being…
a black volvo.
Black….
What happened to happy, giddy, fun-loving Dan?
I’ll tell you what.
Work happened.
Not that I hate work, but I definitely did for a while.
It was that whole work/life balance thing that really got me. Mainly in that I didn’t have one.
Yellow mini Dan didn’t really understand the concept of working for a living.
Actually, it all still seems a little too base. (What? You mean I have to do this every day for the next 30 years? Impossible.)
Black volvo Dan put all her energy into those 40+ hours a week to the detriment of what normal people would call ummm… having a life.
I’ve always been attracted to extremes.
Anyway, now I’m older, wiser, maybe bitter-er but working on it. Hey at least I’ve gotten the work/life balance thing down.
And even though I’m not a yellow mini anymore, I don’t think I’m as black volvo as I was when I got the car a year and a half ago.
Thank God.
So what next, you ask?
Beats me.
It’s another year and a half until my lease is up so I have oodles of time to ponder what kind of car I want be next.
Suggestions?

I suggest putting the word “to” anywhere in the following sentence. You decide where.
‘It’s another year and a half until my lease is up so I have oodles of time to ponder what kind of car I want be next.’
